Episode 3

Episode 3 finally meet new people and get to see the city Violet lives in. This is Violet's first time interacting with other people out of the company. she goes to school for dolls and meets another doll, who is has trouble expressing her emotions.

Summery

Violet goes to school for dolls, she meets another doll, Luculia, who is having trouble expressing her own emotions. While at school Violet does good at the beginning but loses her spark when needing involving emotion into her writing. Violet then helps Luculia and it impresses their teacher and she gets a brooch.

Characters introduced/said

Luculia Marlborough.

Spencer Marlborough

Rhodanthe.

Bluebell Junoa

Iberis Konoue.

Important Interactions with others

At the beginning of the episode, when her teacher, Rhodanthe, is finished saying the introduction. Rhodanthe says, "Do you understand?" Violet says, "Affirmative." Standing up and saluting her. Like how she would superiors. Luculia's impression of her was, "Violet Evergarden. Despite her doll-like outfit, she had the demeanor of a military soldier." meaning Luculia knows how a military soldiers act and looks can be deceiving.

At the beginning of school, Violet only takes direct orders from Rhodanthe. For example when they were practicing typing Violet didn't start until Rhodanthe walked up to her and told Violet to write 200 characters. She is also the top of the class in that moment. Later though when they practice writing letters in pairs (Violet and Luculia are partners). Violet is again incapable of conveying the emotions that Luculia is feeling. Then they graduate but Violet doesn't get the brooch that shows she is an optimal doll.

After Luculia tells Violet about her brother and how she feels about their relationship, then leaves. Violet all of a sudden starts writing Luculia's brother a letter conveying the emotions Luculia couldn't say aloud. Violet then finds Spencer in front of the same tower from earlier in the episode. Violet gave him the letter and at first she called it a "Mission," then, an "assignment," but then calls it a "letter." This means that Violet knows the importance of a letter. Although later when Violet is talking to Benedict and Cattleya she says "I'm not sure if the feelings came cross."

What she thinks of school

She thinks at school in an important mission that she needs to accomplish, she just takes exact orders from Rodanthe like how she would with her superiors in the military.

I again like to think of this, as Violet only understands the military and will interpret regular day things into a military things. For example, keeping her eating to a minimum when on missions and only taking direct/specific orders

Times (important to me) emotions are shown (Luculia's and Violet's)

This first time we hear about Luculia's problems is when she is trying to help Violet write a letter to major

Gilbert. She talks about how she lost her parents in the war, and how her brother (Spencer) feels guilty that he was not able to protect them. Since then Luculia and Spencer's relationship has drifted and Luculia doesn't know how to tell her brother that she is happy he is alive. Luculia is crying and basically whispering. Then she leaves.

Main emotion shown and how Violet reacts to it

This episode is the first that shows Empathy, the ability to understand and share emotions with others. That is one of the most important quality of being a doll. Violet learns empathy when she writes the letter for Spencer.

Foreshadowing/Flashbacks.

When Violet and Luculia go up the tower it is sunset and Violet looks at the view and it reminds her of the time Violet was looking at the sunset with the major. he says that he hopes that Violet will able to see the view from Leiden(city). I really liked this flashback it shows that Violet is always with him and that he has always want Violet to live a "normal" life.

My opinion on this episode

T I enjoy this episode, I liked that it started off with empathy and that Violet was able to relate to what Luculia was feeling.
